Terza tavola

A scarce early copperplate map originally published in woodblock format for Ramusio's important and influential travel book "Della Navigationi et Viaggi" published in 1554. This is the most easterly of a set of three maps of Asia. It extends from the Bay of Bengal, to the eastern coasts of China, with Japan "Cympagu" as a single island at the extreme left. It is the first time the name Filipine (The Philippines) appeared on a European printed map. The coastlines of the Malay peninsula, Indochina and southern China, including Canton and Marco Polo's Zaiton are extensively denoted
